The Space Shifter

Location: Nevada Desert, USA
Program: Hyperloop Desert Campus, Architectural Competition
Project Team: Wimonwan Wichaikhamjorn and Raksina Namsorn

The Space Shifter epitomises the futuristic essence of Hyperloop transportation, seamlessly blending science and mysticism to create a beacon of innovation. At its core, our building features a monumental space tunnel atop, symbolizing humanity's quest for connectivity across time and space.

Inspired by the enigmatic wormhole concept, the roof invites contemplation of temporal displacement and exploration. Wrapped in a mirrored facade, the structure reflects the surrounding desert, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. Inside, a desert garden hall offers serene vistas, while sandstorm-induced artistry creates an ever-changing interior landscape, showcasing the timeless allure of the unknown. In this convergence of science and art, visitors are invited to embark on a journey of discovery, where the boundaries of possibility are boundless.

The Interactive Light Tunnel integrates dynamic lighting technology with environmental responsiveness, transforming the tunnel into a captivating medium that communicates with its surroundings. Beyond mere adornment, the interactive light tunnel serves as a conduit for conveying messages and fostering a deeper connection between individuals and their environment.

At the forefront of our design lies the Infinity Tunnel Roof, a marvel of optical engineering. Comprising a two-way mirror surface, the roof harnesses the interplay of light sources nestled between the reflective glass and a partially reflective mirror. This arrangement allows light to ricochet endlessly within the tunnel, with subtle variations in intensity and color. For the observer gazing upon the surface, a mesmerizing illusion unfolds as the lights seemingly vanish into the depths of infinity, casting the impression of a boundless corridor illuminated by ethereal luminescence.

Beyond its aesthetic allure, the clear reflecting glass that forms the roof serves a dual purpose as solar panels, harnessing the power of sunlight to fuel the building's energy needs. This symbiotic integration of form and function underscores our commitment to sustainability and innovation, ensuring that the structure remains both environmentally conscious and visually stunning. The Interactive Light Tunnel and Infinity Tunnel Roof embody a harmonious blend of artistry, technology, and environmental stewardship, inviting individuals to embark on a journey of discovery and wonder with every glance skyward.
