Project Team: Ahrian Tayloy, Patsaraporn Liewatanakorn, Wimonwan Wichaikhamjorn and Hui Sim Chan

BenchBots is an interactive installation that invites people to engage with their environment through movements. At its core, the idea is a bench enhanced with responsive lighting and multiple sensor technologies. It detects nearby activities—such as walking, sitting, running, or cycling - and responds with dynamic colour changes and animated light sequences.
These responsive visuals create a vivid, real-time dialogue between human motion and the space itself.

Installed in Olympic Park, BenchBots transforms an otherwise underused bench into a vibrant, responsive landmark. By reactivating this overlooked piece of urban furniture, the installation brings new energy to the area—drawing attention, inviting interaction, and encouraging spontaneous encounters.

The work fosters curiosity and playful engagement, prompting passersby to discover how their movements shape the atmosphere around them. Whether someone pauses to rest or moves swiftly by, BenchBots turns everyday gestures into glowing, animated experiences.
Designed to inspire connection and community participation, this project reimagines public seating not as a passive infrastructure but as an expressive, living part of the urban landscape.
